New Orleans ramps up construction projects ahead of Super Bowl

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans is getting a nearly $75 million makeover as construction begins to ramp up on streets and sidewalks ahead of Super Bowl LIX in February.
"New roads going in, roads being milled, same with the CBD, you see sidewalks being rehabilitated. You see water main lines getting fixed by SWBNO. We're 100% confident these projects will get completed by the Super Bowl," said Greater New Orleans Inc.'s Leo John Arnett.

The plan is a collaboration between multiple agencies across the city, with hundreds of projects either already underway or expected to begin soon.
"Really what it is is over 500 projects that the City of New Orleans, DOTD and all of the different agencies in the city whether it be DPW, parks and parkways are all collaborating together," said Arnett.
While this plan is viewed as a positive in the long run, some local business owners say the constant construction during work hours has not been easy to deal with.
"I don't mind them doing the work, just don't bring 13 trucks to fix one pothole, and try to park where you're not interfering business because it's really interfering with business. When people can't drive through or see the shop or walk by and see the shop, that's an issue," said No Rules Fashion manager Latoyna Michelle Bridges.

While they are excited for the final result, they also hope that the city sticks to the deadline ahead of the game.
"That pothole needs to be repaired because we cannot have people falling. A lot of people around this part of the quarter are older people because they live in this area," said Bridges.
