Dear Editor:Speaking as a practicing Catholic, the choice between housing and “historic preservation” is simple. Jesus was always on the side of the poor, the elderly, children, prisoners and the sick. Burlington already has a historic cathedral a few blocks away, which is aesthetically much more pleasing to me, anyway.Surely the land that the disused cathedral is on would be better used for housing in these difficult times, when at least a million Americans are homeless. I believe that the question “what would Jesus do?” has a pretty clear answer in this case. Demolish the cathedral and build homes.James Harvey Burlington Read the story on VTDigger here: James Harvey: Cathedral controversy.
