Light rain and lingering clouds on Christmas Eve
Dec 24, 2024
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – We are tracking some light rain for your Christmas Eve morning. This rain will slowly exit by the late morning and early afternoon. Even with the rain exiting skies will remain mostly cloudy to overcast. There will also be a noticeable difference in temperatures between northern Kentucky (low 40s) and southern Kentucky (low 50s).
Tonight we will keep the cloud cover around and temperatures will only fall into the upper 30s and low 40s. Your Christmas morning may start off with a few showers north and west of Lexington, but most of the area should remain dry.
The Christmas Day forecast will feature isolated showers, specifically to the north and west of Lexington. Most of southern and southeastern Kentucky should remain dry through the day. There will also be a big temperature difference between northern Kentucky (40s) and southern Kentucky (mid-50s). Southern and southeastern Kentucky will also try to clear the skies out a bit by the afternoon.
Temperatures spike late this week and into the start of the weekend. Friday and Saturday will be two of the warmer days, with afternoon highs climbing into the upper 50s and possibly low 60s. This will be ahead of rain chances that increase throughout the weekend ahead of a cold front. This cold front passing through will eventually lead to some cooler air arriving by the start of the New Year.
Speaking of colder air… The long term data suggests we could be in for a very cold middle of the month of January. Expect a pattern change back to below average temperatures starting from around the first weekend of January through at least the middle of the month. This would be a favorable pattern for more wintry weather as well… So stay tuned!
