12 years later: First Responders gather for remembrance of victims of fatal 2012 shooting of firefighters
Dec 24, 2024
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Tuesday marks 12 years since the Christmas Eve ambush in West Webster that claimed the lives of two firefighters.
That morning in 2012, Michael Chiapperini and Tomas Kaczowka were responding to a housefire on Lake Road when they were shot and killed by William Spangler, who then died by suicide on the Lake Ontario Beach.
Every Christmas Eve since, the department and community gather to reflect on that day with an early morning remembrance ceremony.
News 8 took a live look from the memorial tribute that you can watch in the video player at the top of this page.
