SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The energy in the water is building again, and the San Diego Lifeguards are busy patrolling for the heavy surf hitting Monday and preparing for the main event Christmas Eve. “Expecting 10-15, plus some 20-foot faces at some of the outlying, more exposed beaches. High surf advisory issued for coastal San Diego County That could be a quite modest statement from Chief Gartland after his team has already been scooping up flailing surfers for the last 48 hours in some treacherous conditions. “We are busy today, we’ve had a handful, about 20 or so rescues, and yesterday we had 50 plus rescues,” said Gartland. Strong low pressure system brings high rip current risk to San Diego beaches Lifeguards have been working in heavy surf conditions as they patrol Ocean Beach, Sunset Cliffs, and Windansea Beach, all the way to Blacks Beach.   In the North County, surfers are staking out parking spots hoping to get out in the line up early and get the huge surf before others wake up. But there is one more piece of really good advice. “If you are dusting off your old 7’6 and you haven’t ridden it in a long time, tomorrow is not the day for you,” said Gartland. Be safe out there or just go for the show. The High Surf Warning will be in effect until Wednesday.
