LAKEVILLE, Mass. (WLNE) — Six people were displaced after a house fire in Lakeville on Sunday night.
Crews were dispatched to a home on Anaconda Drive home just after 11 p.m. for a report of smoke in the home.
First-arriving crews encountered smoke escaping from the building, and declared a working fire, which initiated a mutual aid response from Middleborough, Raynham, and Freetown Fire Departments.
However, the fire was quickly knocked down.
Firefighters were able to rescue two dogs from the home after the homeowner removed two additional dogs.
The family’s cats, birds, and all but one of their pet reptiles survived the fire.
An animal control officer responded to collect some of the displaced pets, and provided shelter for the animals.
One person was home at the time of the blaze, but was not injured.
Firefighters were also able to isolate Christmas presents from being damaged by the fire and water.
The house was deemed uninhabitable, and The American Red Cross is currently helping the family at this time.
According to officials, cold temperatures caused firefighting water to freeze, creating a hazard for responders.
The Lakeville Department of Public Works had to sand the area to mitigate the hazard.
The cause of the fire does not seem to be suspicious, according to officials.
The Lakeville Fire Department shared how you can donate to help the family displaced by the fire, which you can find here.
