SPOUT SPRINGS, N.C. (WNCN) — A firefighter was trapped and injured after a crash involving his Harnett County fire truck while he was headed to a blaze Monday afternoon, officials said. The fire was reported around 3:21 p.m. as a brush fire on Cameron Hill Road, southeast of Cameron, according to a Spout Springs Emergency Services news release. A crew in a Spout Springs Fire brush truck was responding with the vehicle's lights and sirens activated, officials said. Eight minutes after the initial call, a vehicle crashed into the Spout Springs fire brush truck at the Delaware Lane and N.C. 24 intersection, just west of NC 87, the news release said. "The collision caused the Brush Truck to roll over, trapping the driver," officials said. Rescue crews worked to extricate the brush truck driver who was then airlifted to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, officials said. A Spout Springs Fire Dept. brush truck in a photo from 2014. Dunn Emergency Services was one of the first departments to comment on the incident. By Monday night, more than 10 fire departments in central North Carolina shared posts on social media sharing concerns and asking for prayers following the crash. "Sending our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Spout Springs Emergency Services during this challenging time," Dunn Emergency Services wrote. Other agencies that commented about the crash were near Harnett County. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Spout Springs Emergency Services during this difficult time," West End Fire and Rescue wrote. "Please keep our brothers and sisters at Spout Springs Emergency Services in your thoughts and prayers," Coats Grove Fire Rescue posted along with the shield for Spout Springs Fire Rescue.
