The NFL closes out Week 16 with a “Monday Night Football” matchup between the New Orleans Saints (5-9) and Green Bay Packers (10-4). With the NFL playoffs coming into focus, most teams have a firm understanding of where they are in relation to the postseason. For the Saints, they’ve been eliminated from contention and will be playing for pride from here on out. They’ve already fired their head coach, so they aren’t looking to build an identity just yet, but the players will be auditioning for the next coaching staff, or a new home in free agency, so there are ways to stay motivated. For the Packers, they are one win away from securing a spot in the postseason, and the Saints present the most direct avenue for Green Bay to achieve that goal. While the Packers have been officially eliminated from winning the NFC North, if they beat New Orleans, they will secure a playoff berth and will put themselves firmly in the No. 6 seed with a chance at the No. 5 seed if they can string some more wins over the final two weeks (they play the Vikings in Week 17 and the Bears in Week 18). Betting line and pick for the game The folks over at FanDuel Sportsbook are heavily favoring Green Bay in this game with the betting line being set at Packers -14.5 points. Not only are the Packers the more talented team but they’ve got a lot to play for. But look no further than Sunday Night’s game, when the Cowboys (with nothing to play for) upset the Buccaneers, which dropped them from the No. 3 seed to the No. 8 seed and out of the current playoff standings. That being said, it would surprise me to see the Packers fold in this game.
