OXON HILL, Md. (DC News Now) -- The outlets in Maryland are a popular place for shoppers during the holidays but recently became a target for thieves. The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) is investigating early Monday morning break-ins at the Tanger Outlets in Oxon Hill. Prince George’s County police investigating jewelry store theft Kevin Cruz and his family were doing some last-minute shopping Monday afternoon. They heard about the store break-ins and are concerned. “This is very unfortunate, and we have this nice Tanger Outlet on this side of the county and it is unfortunate that some people are resorting to theft and damaging property,” Cruz said. An employee at the Lacoste outlet store said five or more stores including her store were hit Monday morning around 1:30 a.m. She said thieves busted the glass front doors and broke in and attempted to steal cash registers but were unsuccessful.  The thieves left without taking any clothing or merchandise.   DC News Now spoke to other shoppers like Zhara Kelly who hopes those responsible for the theft and damage will face justice. “It is so disappointing, and you would think that everybody would be in the Christmas cheer and the holiday spirit but I guess other people have other plans," she said. Prince George’s County police partner with Target to help families buy toys for children for Christmas PGPD has not given details about what was stolen or how many outlets were broken into. A manager at the “As Seen on TV” store said thieves broke in and stole $6,000 in cash. PGPD is asking if anyone has any information to reach out.
