ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Loved ones of an inmate at Marcy Correctional Facility who died after what the NYS AG described as a "use-of-force" incident, have now broken their silence after watching video evidence of the incident.
Man serving 12-year sentence for Monroe County assault dies after ‘use-of-force’ at Marcy Correctional Facility: AG
Robert Brooks, 43, was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison for assaulting someone in Monroe County. He was admitted to the Marcy Correctional Facility in 2017. This weekend, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that she's pushing for the terminations of 14 staff members who were allegedly involved in what she called an "attack" on Brooks, who died in the hospital Dec. 10, the next day.
AG James announced that her office is reviewing the video as part of an ongoing investigation. Monday night, the attorney representing the Brooks family wrote on behalf of the family that they too have now watched the video.
“The Brooks family, along with their attorney, have now viewed the video documenting his death at the hands of staff at Marcy Correctional Facility. As expected, watching the horrific and violent final moments of Robert’s life was devastating for his loved ones, and will be disturbing to anyone who views the video following its release by the Attorney General’s Office. We will not rest until we have secured justice for Robert’s memory, and safety for the prisoners at Marcy Correctional Facility.”
