Holiday travel rush booms at Bradley International Airport
Dec 23, 2024
WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WWLP) - With just two days until Christmas, Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks has been full of travelers.
About 93,000 people are expected to depart from Bradley International from Monday, December 23 until the 26th.
On the eve before Christmas Eve, thousands of travelers took to the skies to get to their holiday destinations. It was a busy sight at Bradley International Airport with lines forming to get through security checkpoints, and some passengers utilizing TSA Pre-Check to get through more quickly.
Mileisha Zelaya, who is traveling to New Orleans told 22News, "I came this morning when the airport was full---but right now it's empty--and I like that!"
This follows a weekend of travel disruptions---in the northeast, Amtrak was down leaving train passengers stranded for hours —and thousands of flights were delayed or canceled across the country due to inclement weather.
Travelers going through Bradley, hoping for a less stressful experience, "Pre-holiday? It's been great," says Bob and Diane Linden, traveling to Charlotte. "Actually everything has gone smoothly and we are very happy about that!"
The TSA projects the next two busiest holiday travel days will be after Christmas on Friday, December 27th, and right before New Year's Eve, Monday, December 30th.
They encourage people to arrive a minimum of two hours before their scheduled domestic flights and three hours before international departures.
If travelers want to spend less time at a security check point—you need to know what you can and cannot bring in your go carry-on bag. And if you are traveling with gifts—make sure they are not wrapped and instead in a bag or a box so it is much easier for TSA to look at the item to resolve any alarms that were set off.
