Mild and dry weather continues through Christmas Eve across New Mexico. A fast moving storm will bring chances for snow and rain to parts of the state for Christmas Day. It was yet another warm afternoon Monday across New Mexico, with high temperatures staying well-above average for most of the state. A cold front has brought a big change in temperatures though to northeastern parts of the state though. This front will leave high temperatures slightly cooler Christmas Eve across southeast New Mexico, but the whole state will still hang onto mostly sunny, dry, and mild weather for Christmas Eve afternoon. Our weather gets more active on Christmas Day as a storm system quickly moves across the state. The storm will bring snowfall to the northern mountains, and the higher elevations of west-central New Mexico. Snow may briefly mix with a few spotty showers the valleys of far northern and northeastern New Mexico. The snow could cause a few slick spots at the Raton Pass by Christmas Day evening. A couple spotty showers will also be possible by the evening in the Albuquerque Metro. Not a lot of snow is forecast through, with a dusting to 4" at most in the northern mountains. A few mountain locations do have a chance for a white Christmas, while places like Taos, Durango, and the East Mountains could see a few flurries to a dusting of snow. Elsewhere across the state, westerly winds will pick up. Gusts could be as high as 45 mph Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures will still be mild for most of the state, with cooler air mainly in northern New Mexico. Drier air returns Thursday, along with slightly cooler temperatures. A few snow flurries will be possible though in northern New Mexico Friday, but accumulations look to be very light and mainly in the mountains. Breezy winds will continue into the weekend across the state as temperatures start a warming trend, eventually climbing back well-above average by early next week.
