UNM's Donovan Dent is the Mountain West Player of the Week
Dec 23, 2024
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After a week that saw him score a career best of 40 points, in a 78-71 victory over VCU, UNM junior guard Donovan Dent has been Mountain West Player of the Week. It's the second time in his career that Dent has received the honor. He also picked up the weekly honor once last season. Dent scored 25 of his 40 points in the second half last Wednesday.
Overall, Dent was 14-26 from the floor, 2-4 from behind the arc, and 10-11 from the line. He also added five rebounds and four assists to his stat line. Because of his position, Dent touches the ball a lot during each game and always manages to maintain a balance between shooting or passing the ball.
Against VCU, he took what the defense allowed. "I was just really reading the defense," said Dent. "They were kind of just hugging my shooter's most of the game. So, I couldn't really get it to them. They were hugging my big man. They were leaving me one on one most of the game. So, I mean, I just take that into account. I was just shooting the ball from there. In those moments I felt like I had the majority of the shots so, it felt good."
VCU was the last non conference game for UNM. The Lobos, 9-3 overall and 1-0 in the Mountain West, will resume league play Saturday on the road at Colorado State.
