SDSU seniors say goodbye following historic run

FARGO, N.D. (KELO) -- South Dakota State's season came to a close Saturday in the FCS semifinals with a 28-21 loss at North Dakota State. It marked the end of the road for one of the program's most decorated senior classes.
Saturday's game was the final contest for the more than two dozen seniors on the roster, who won back-to-back national championships and extended the Jacks' streak of semifinal appearances to five.
"The senior group is special because of the spirit in which they work," SDSU head coach Jimmy Rogers said. "What they wanted on a daily basis lived up to everything that they said along the way."
At the front of the senior group was quarterback Mark Gronowski, who finished his career with 49 wins, tied for the most in FCS history.
"I'm proud of Mark Gronowski," Rogers said. "He has done everything and more for this team. He's given up a lot to stay here, stay committed. He threw to a lot of different wide receivers this year, and I'm proud of the group that started to connect there at the end."
"I can't thank South Dakota State enough for giving me the opportunity," Gronowski said. "First off, it was my only scholarship offer coming out of high school, and I can't thank them enough for believing in me."
The seniors were part of the program's first three trips to the national title game as well as 60 victories, but the impact stretches beyond the wins and losses.
"This place is real," SDSU senior linebacker Adam Bock said. "Family is real. I love every single guy on this team. It's been a brotherhood. It was the greatest decision of my life (to come to SDSU). I wouldn't have done it any other way."
SDSU finished the year 12-3 for its fourth-straight 10-win season. The Jackrabbits open the 2025 campaign at home against Sacramento State.
