NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — When a pipe burst on a frigid night earlier this month, a Norfolk mother reached out to 10 On Your Side for help.

Since water poured into their Park Place home, love and support has flowed from across the region, and now, a Suffolk church has responded to the family in need.
The Mount Suffolk church, and its pastor, Karl Wilkins, answered the family's call for help.
"Looking at the story Friday, and looking at the kids and listening to Donte — 'even if we don't have presents, we can sit and watch TV together,' he said in a previous interview — I knew that there was something extraordinarily different about this family," Wilkins said.
The people of The Mount Suffolk opened their hearts to a family that was forced from their home during the early morning hours of Dec. 1 after the pipes in a 100-plus-year-old home burst. They made sure the members of this family would have gifts to open for Christmas.

And even after the holiday, Veda Fulford, a double-amputee, will be admitted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital four days after Christmas.
"So the fear of going back to the doctor is high on my brain of what might happen," Fulford said.
But a healing can happen also.

"Right," she said.
Heart to heart, emotions overflowed.
"Thank you," Fulford's daughter and the oldest of three children, Shaunna, said. "And we really do appreciate you. We've been through a lot, a lot, a lot."
Before they celebrate the birth of Christ, they will celebrate the birth of Janiyha, who turns 13 on Christmas Eve.
Using the only wheels they have, the Fulfords traveled to a nearby discount store to buy party balloons.
With dad, Rico, in the lead, the Fulfords say they are back on track, thank to the people of Hampton Roads.
"With love, with people coming through, we was able to make it through — one day at a time," Rico Fulford said.
After the birthday party, the children say they will stay up all night and open their presents after midnight. They plan to attend church services at The Mount Suffolk Sunday morning.
