GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - The Packers had plenty to celebrate when they beat the New Orleans Saints 34-0 on Monday Night Football. Not only did they clinch a playoff spot, but the Packers also got to honor one of their legends at halftime of the game. The Green and Gold took a few minutes to celebrate president/CEO Mark Murphy who will retire in July. The halftime ceremony included a brief speech from Murphy, a video tribute, and a recorded message from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. "The Packers organization is unbelievable, it was that way before I got here and it will continue on," Murphy said. Packers clinch playoff berth with 1st shutout in NFL this season, 34-0 over Saints Murphy will turn 70 next year, the mandatory retirement age for this position according to organization bylaws. "Every NFL teams says their fans are the best, but we're the only ones where it's true," said Murphy. "You're also the best owners in the NFL." Murphy was the Packers president/ CEO for 17 seasons. The team made the playoffs in 12 of 17 seasons during that stretch and won the Super Bowl in 2011. He's also been instrumental in the Packers off-the-field success over the years. He's invested millions of dollars into upgrades and renovations at Lambeau Field without using public tax money. What to expect if you’re flying through Green Bay during the holidays He led the creation of the Titletown campus which has become tremendously popular with Packers fans over the years. Murphy was instrumental in convincing the NFL to hold the NFL draft in Green Bay next spring as well. The game program for the Packers matchup against the Saints Monday night featured Murphy's picture on the cover. The coin used for the coin toss before the game also featured Murphy's face. The Packers will induct Murphy into their Hall of Fame next August.
