WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- D.C.'s District Snow Team was deployed Monday night in preparation for possible freezing rain.
In a news release, Mayor Muriel Bowser said that the snow team was deployed at 6 p.m. to help with pre-treatment brine operations on every snow emergency route.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a chance of freezing rain during rush hour Tuesday morning, with temperatures at or below freezing.
FORECAST: Sunny and cold Monday, wintry mix early Tuesday
Bowser recommended that homeowners use abrasives on sidewalks before any rain or snow starts. These abrasives include salt, non-clumping cat litter and pet-friendly deicer.
The snow team will remain on standby until 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
