Holiday travel rush: ROC Airport swamped
Dec 23, 2024
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Another busy travel rush throughout the region and across the country - with Christmas and Hanukkah just two days away. News 8 caught up with a few people at the Greater Rochester International Airport Monday morning to see the frenzy first-hand. Inside: lines for days.

"Checking in was not bad, but the security line? Looks like we're going to be here for a while," said Karen Goossen, who's traveling to South Carolina.
"I honestly thought the line was going to be very short at Rochester because it usually is. But, then again, I usually get my flights in the afternoon, not in the morning," said Amir Al, who's traveling to New York City. "I guess it's the holiday times - It's just, it's giving JFK vibes, and I have a flight to catch, and I don't know if I'm going to make it."
TSA announced that nearly 40 million passengers are expected to be screened from Dec. 19 through Jan. 2. That's a 6% increase from last year.
"I'm going to relax because I work seven days a week," said Goossen.
"We're planning on going to the pool and on the beach and hopefully getting a suntan," said Ella Munger, who's traveling to Florida.

Winter weather is already thwarting some travel plans, with thousands of flights delayed across the country.
"Leave earlier, don't do what I did - I waited until the last minute," admitted Al.
More snow and freezing rain are expected in parts of the Midwest and Northeast in the coming days. Click here to keep up with flight departures at ROC airport.
