(KRON) – Two retail theft suspects were hit with additional charges related to the implementation of Prop 36 after four Sacramento residents allegedly committed grand theft in Vacaville's Nut Tree Village, according to authorities.
The Vacaville Police Department was first alerted to the theft by a community member who police say witnessed a woman holding a load of clothes in her arms running out of Nordstrom Rack. Police said the suspect fled in a blue SUV.
Vacaville PD said the department’s community service officers began surveilling cameras in the area and learned the SUV was headed near the east plaza. The responding officer said they located the unoccupied SUV parked in front of Nike.
Officers said not too long later two suspects, identified as Sacramento residents Breanna Martin, 31, and Laquiesha Ellington, 37, ran out of the stores with a “full bag” of stolen items. Police said the duo attempted to flee back into the store but were detained.

Vacaville PD said officers later determined the duo was not working alone. Sacramento residents Jasmine Russell, 37, and Oscar Guerra, 30, were detained at a nearby store, according to police.
According to the police investigation, the group collectively stole more than $2,200 in merchandise from Nordstrom Rack and more than $1,600 in merchandise from Nike.
According to police, some of the suspects were wearing the recently stolen clothes.
Ellington, police said, had five outstanding felony warrants for her arrest due to another organized retail crime case.
Due to Prop 36, Martin and Russell were charged with petty theft with a prior, which is a new charge that can result in a person who has two or more petty theft or shoplifting charges being penalized with imprisonment.
The group was arrested and booked into Solano County Jail on various felony charges related to organized retail theft, grand theft and conspiracy. Vacaville PD said the SUV was booked into “car jail.”
