(KRON) -- A “strategically placed” bait bike equipped with a GPS tracker was stolen in the East Bay last week, the Danville Police Department announced Saturday.
The bait bike, much like bait cars, is used by police to catch thieves in the act. “The hope is the thieves will target our bike and not a residents,” Danville PD said in a social media post.

Officers responded on Dec. 16 at around 8:30 a.m. after a man allegedly stole the Danville bait bike, authorities said. The suspect was arrested and booked into jail for grand theft of the bicycle.
Danville police advise bicycle owners to use two locks for more security, lock up bikes in busy areas, secure both the frame and the wheels in the lock and use security bolts for quick-release components.
