Man pleads guilty in death of man found in car trunk in west Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- A man charged in the shooting death of a man who was found in the trunk of a car in west Wichita has pleaded guilty in the case.
Daitrez Birch, 24, of Wichita, appeared for a preliminary hearing Monday morning in the shooting death of Kyce Barnes, whose body was found in a trunk in west Wichita, a few blocks east of Tyler Road near Kellogg. Police got a call of an abandoned vehicle around 7 a.m. on Aug. 21 and made the discovery.

Wichita man sentenced in child solicitation case
Birch, who had been charged with first-degree murder, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and instead agreed to plead guilty to second-degree murder, aggravated burglary, and desecration of remains. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 10.
A second suspect in the case, Taryn Bowman, who was arrested for interference with law enforcement; conceal/alter/destroy evidence in a felony case, has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Feb. 11.
