KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A former Olathe West High School science teacher has been charged after investigators say he had sexual relations with a student enrolled at the school.
According to a Johnson County District Court complaint filed on Nov. 26, 35-year-old Jonathan M. Molina-Calderon is facing one count of unlawful sexual relations for engaging in "consensual sexual intercourse with a person 16 or more years old" back in October of this year.

On Thursday, Dec. 19, almost a month after the charges were filed, and more than two months since the alleged assault, court records filed in Jackson County showed that Molina-Calderon was found and arrested in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Olathe School District said Molina-Calderon was hired in August of 2018.
Following the incident, the district said the principal sent the following letter to families.
"I wanted to make you aware that ELL teacher Mr. Molina Calderon will not be returning toOlathe West. We are putting a fantastic long-term substitute in place and will be looking toname a permanent teacher as quickly as possible. Our substitute will be working closely with our administration team and the rest of our ELL department as we navigate this transition. I am confident that our students will have an excellent remainder of the 2024-25 school year."
"We are committed to working with our students and staff to make the transition as smooth aspossible. Your student was told of this change during their ELL class today. Please feel free toreach out to me if you have any questions or concerns."
The alleged crime happened back in October.
Dawn Lassiter's daughter graduated from Olathe West three years ago.
"My daughter had really good experiences at Olathe West, so it's hard to believe," Lassiter said. "I would just be infuriated. It hasn't happened to any of my kids but I feel for them. I'm infuriated just because it happened to someone else's kid like they're kids and it's gross."
As of Monday morning, Molina-Calderon is being held on a $50,000 bond at a Jackson County jail.
Last week a judge ordered Molina-Calderon to be extradited to Kansas.
