      RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Two teens have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a K9 officer, said RCSD. A 16-year-old is being charged with obstruction of justice and misprision in connection to the case. death of K9 Bumi on Monday morning near the 100 block of Alida Street. And a 13-year-old is being charged with attempted murder; unlawful killing of police dog; malicious injury to personal property over 10k; breach of peace high and aggravated nature; possession of a weapon under 18; unlawful carrying of a weapon; possession of weapon during a violent crime; possession of a stolen vehicle. The 13-year-old was taken to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (SCDJJ) after being arrested 3:30 in the afternoon on Monday, December 23, by the RCSD Fugitive Task Force and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. Early this morning shortly before 2:30 a.m., deputies spotted a stolen vehicle near the 7400 block of Parklane Road and initiated a traffic stop, according to RCSD. When the vehicle did not stop, a short pursuit happened. During the pursuit deputies deployed stop sticks and the vehicle wrecked near the intersection of Alida Street and Wilkes Road. Two people ran from the vehicle, and a third person was detained, said Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Also, during the pursuit K9 Specialist Alan Ware and his K9 Bumi chased the suspects on foot and as they turned the corner behind a home a suspect shot multiple times hitting Bumi at least twice. K9 Bumi was taken to CVETs but he died due to his injuries. “It is a very sad day, having to stand here for the third time this year and talk about a loss of one of our K9s. It is only by God’s grace that a deputy was not shot,” said Sheriff Leon Lott. K9 Specialist Alan Ware had been with the sheriff’s department for approximately 3 months with 5 years of service.
