According to an affidavit in the case, Bismarck Police were contacted December 20 by the senior church pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Police say they were told a woman who had been employed by the church since September, Chelsa Kinsella, had deceived the church and taken a large sum of money.
According to the church, Kinsella allegedly had not been depositing church funds, as required by her job, and that $38,000 was unaccounted for.
The church also found the church credit card had been used without permission to make purchases on Amazon for over $650.
Kinsella was fired after the issues were discovered and she was reportedly told by the senior church pastor to return all missing funds to the church.
On December 21, she returned to the church and turned over to church and police officials two locked bank deposit bags. Three unsecured bank deposit bags were later reportedly found in her car, totaling $16,313 in checks and cash.
Kinsella was charged with Theft - Taking $10,000-$50,000, a Class B Felony, and Unauthorized use of personal identifying information, a Class A Felony, as this would be her second offense.
