GRAND FORKS, ND (KXNET) — The U.S. Space Force has awarded a contract modification of nearly $10 million to General Dynamics for a satellite mission at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. The funds will be used to develop and test a data traffic network serving the low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite mission. The project aims to enable interoperability between the new space-based communications system and existing ground-based systems. This would help ensure efficient data traffic, while keeping mission information secure. In addition to the satellite mission, the funding will also be used to advance the General Dynamics' Space Networking Center. Department of Commerce invests $1.3 million in healthcare at UND “This additional $10 million in funding will help support a critical aspect of the LEO satellite mission — ensuring the secure and efficient movement of mission-critical information,” Senator John Hoeven said. “Under this award, General Dynamics will test and develop systems that can integrate the first tranche of LEO satellites into the DoD’s communications network. Doing so will lay the groundwork for missions to begin utilizing the satellite communications network and cementing Grand Forks’ central role in supporting military operations around the globe.” To learn more about the mission, go to the Space Development Agency website.
