Twenty-six semifinalists have been named for the 2025 Janet & Walter Sondheim Art Prize, the prestigious visual arts competition that awards $30,000 to the winner.Next year will be the 20th anniversary of the award, which is presented by the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts (BOPA) in partnership with the Walters Art Museum and supported by the Maryland State Arts Council.The competition is limited to a visual artist or group of collaborators who live and work in the Baltimore region. Five finalists will be selected and their work will be exhibited at the Walters Art Museum starting in April 2025. The winner will be announced in late June.The artists and collaborators selected for the semifinal round are: Aliana Grace Bailey; Amanda Leigh Burnham; Anna Divinagracia; Emily Francisco, Jerrell Gibbs; Najee H. F.; Marnie Ellen Hertzler; Lillian Jacobson, Heejo Kim; Lusmerlin; Xyl Lasersohn; Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann; Jacob Mayberry; Claudia McDonough; Osvaldo Mesa; Lindsay Mueller; Danielle Mysliwiec; Marguerite de Messieres & Tsvetomir Naydenov; Terrence Nicholson; David Page; Charlotte Richardson-Deppe; Anne Clare Rogers; Wonchul Ryu; Hedy Ward; Andersen Woof; and Kelli Williams.The 2025 Sondheim jurors are: Jaqueline Cedar of Brooklyn, New York; Mike Cloud of Chicago, Illinois; and Jennie Goldstein, a curator with the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Artists seeking the award were asked to submit up to 30 images or “time-based works” and a description of how they would use the prize money if selected.According to BOPA, the five finalists will be announced in mid-January and a finalist exhibition at The Walters (600 N. Charles St., thewalters.org) will be held from April 19 to July 20, 2025. The exact date for naming the winner has not been announced.  Semifinalists not selected for final consideration will receive an exhibition of their work during Artscape 2025, May 24 and 25.More information is available by visiting promotionandarts.org or by following BOPA on social media @promoandarts.
