WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - A woman and her dog are in critical condition after an overnight fire. It happened after midnight in the 1000 Block of S. Ida St. near Washington Boulevard and Lincoln Street.
According to the Wichita Fire Department, upon arrival, crews found fire showing from the front part of the house.
"Crews went in immediately because we had a report from a civilian that there was a lady and a dog inside," said WFD Captain Jeremy Menges. "Two reports because the neighbor to the north said the same thing, so we didn't waste any time."
Firefighters are able to get her out of the house along with her dog.

"Both of 'em were unconscious and in bad shape when we got 'em initially. And then once we got 'em both out, you know, both of 'em snapped out of it fairly quick," said Capt. Menges.
Capt. Menges credits their pet oxygen masks for helping the dog pull through.
"We have these FIDO masks that are donated to us, to the department. That's a specific tool that you hook up oxygen to, kind of like what you would a human. They're worth their money. They're worth their weight in gold because that's probably one of the main reasons the dog pulled out," he said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital, and her dog was taken to a local emergency veterinarian.
The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
