[1] Two arrested after string of armed robberies, shooting with police - An investigation is underway after an Albuquerque officer shot an armed robbery suspect. According to APD, there were two armed robberies officers responded to early Sunday afternoon in northwest Albuquerque. APD said two men were seen one of which had a gun. A few hours later, officers say they found the suspects near Carlisle and Montgomery. When they approached, police say one of them surrendered while the suspect with a gun, fled. He was ordered to drop the weapon, when an officer fired at least one shot, striking him. That man was taken to the hospital. APD said they are working to confirm the identities and criminal history of the suspects.
[2] Family relieved to hear suspected Santa Fe hit-and-run driver is behind bars - The suspected driver in a Santa Fe hit-and-run is waking up behind bars. While on a walk with her children in Santa Fe, Monique Maes was killed. The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office said Mario Israel-Mendez is suspected of killing Maes and injuring her two children on Paseo de Nopal in October. Police say Israel-Mendez was found in El Paso, Texas, and arrested. He faces two counts of child abuse, duty to give information and render aid as well as tampering with evidence.
[3] Some Christmas snow but mostly dry across New Mexico - Sporadic light rain showers with wet snow flurries are falling across New Mexico or they’re not even reaching the ground because of dry-enough air lingering beneath the clouds as temperatures are starting off relatively mild for most with clouds absorbing infrared radiation from escaping into space with westerly down-sloping winds in The East Highlands mixing the air around, a process that’s also creating a relatively mild start, but calm conditions with high humidity in The Permian Basin have led to a cold fog for a few in those areas. Air temperatures are in the upper teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, and even lower 50s from northwest to southeast from high to lower elevation, but some of that cooler air is settling down to some of the valley floors.
[4] Old Town Card shop thanking community; speaking out after suspected burglar is let out - The owners of an Old Town store are thanking the community for helping the police find a suspected thief but are disappointed he's back out on the street. Old Town Hobbies and Games was burglarized on December 8. Police say 33-year-old Brian Bettis broke in and stole thousands of dollars worth of Pokémon cards. Bettis was arrested but has since been released on his own recognizance because prosecutors did not file for pretrial detention.
[5] ABQ BioPark’s naughty or nice list features Triton the tiger and Wilson the turtle - The ABQ BioPark has added two more animals to its annual naughty or nice list. Triton the Malayan Tiger is on the naughty list this year. BioPark staff say Triton thinks the pool in the Asia tiger habitat is for two things, swimming and pooping in. Officials add they are confident Triton can turn it around near year and be on the nice list. Wilson the alligator snapping turtle is on the nice list this year. They say Wilson has settled in nice to her temporary home while her habitat undergoes renovations.
