The North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a post to their Facebook page around 9:45 a.m., that there were seven commercial motor vehicles being pulled out from ditches near Sterling on I-94.
"Road conditions are improving but there is scattered ice in many areas of the state," the patrol noted in its post. "Today and tomorrow are high-traffic travel days for Christmas. Drive with caution, wear your seat belt, reduce speeds, and INCREASE following distances to get to your destination safely."
Monday morning, no travel was advised from the northwest corner of the state through Willison, over to Minot and down to Bismarck.
No travel is advised on U.S. Highway 2 from Minot west to the North Dakota border and U.S. Highway 83 from Minot down to Bismarck, and a portion of I-94 east from Bismarck.

The National Weather Service office in Bismarck reports dense fog continues to spread through central and much of western North Dakota, with visibility under a quarter mile at times. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until noon CST today. Be prepared for the possibility of poor visibility if you're venturing out. In addition, before driving somewhere, check the latest road conditions due to stretches of icy and glazed roads left over from weekend freezing rains. Also, the weather service notes the fog itself could deposit a thin layer of ice on untreated surfaces, creating unexpected slippery conditions.

"There are some icy areas across the state and there's also fog that adds to your bad, hazadous driving conditions, so you just need to be careful." says KX Meteorologist Stone Schafer.
Schafer notes the fog in the northwest and central parts of the state will move into the Bismarck area. "In Bismarck, Mandan area, that fog will slowly build through the rest of the morning, so we'll get a little more dense as over the next couple of hours."
Garrison, 8:55 a.m., Dec. 23, 2024 (KX Weather Cam)
Later tonight, around 10:00 p.m., some chances of snow and freezing precipitation are possible in the KX viewing area.
However, things improve greatly after today. Temperatures will be in the 30s from Tuesday into the weekend, with not much else happening in snow or rain.
