Dec 23, 2024
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- Quentin Anthony Anderson plans to announce his candidacy for a Louisiana Senate seat in a special 2025 election.
Anderson, a Democrat, will formally announce his candidacy for District 14 in the state Senate on Sunday, Jan. 5. He previously ran for Louisiana's 6th Congressional District, a new majority-Black district. According to the Secretary of State Office, Anderson received 23,811 votes in the fall election.
The District 14 seat was left vacant by Democrat Cleo Fields, who won the congressional seat in November's election with 150,323 votes.
A special election is set for Feb. 15, 2025. Qualifying for candidates running for state Senate seats will be from Jan. 7-9.
“Louisiana needs leaders who will fight for meaningful progress—not rubberstamp a far-right agenda or settle for business as usual. Our district deserves a senator who will tackle the big challenges head-on, from raising wages and investing in North Baton Rouge to ensuring every child has access to a world-class education. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and deliver real results for my community," Anderson said.
Others planning to run for the District 14 seat are State Rep. Larry Selders and former Board of Elementary and Secondary Education member Carolyn Hill.
