SPENCER, Mass. (WWLP) - Two homes were destroyed and a third was damaged in a fire in Spencer on Sunday. Crews put out two-alarm barn fire in Pittsfield Fire Chief Robert Parsons said that the fire started in a home at 4 East Ave and fireworks began shooting off shortly after fire crews arrived. The fire then spread to the home of Justin Peck, with flames coming out of the roof and destroying his shed. The main challenge in putting the fire out was water as 85 percent of Spencer has no hydrants, stated NBC Boston. The chief also said that firefighters had to deal with frigid temperatures and lots of ice. No one was in any of the homes at the time and no one was injured.
