CHAMBER LOBBYING: Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce members will be lobbying to build the hotly debated Kendall Parkway and other items on the chamber’s priority list when some of them head for Tallahassee for two days in January on their annual fly-in before the state legislature convenes. Beyond the parkway, transportation aims include the Smart Program of new transit routes plus additional corridors. In workforce housing aims, the chamber lists supporting incentives for “adaptive reuse, missing middle housing, and affordable housing for healthcare professionals.” Other chamber targets include promoting investments in workforce education and to “push for property insurance reforms.” The fly-in’s dates are Jan. 14 to 16.
AUTHORITIES FLY HIGH: Of the nation’s 435 airport authorities, only nine are in Florida. Yet, the state ranks fourth in aviation revenue and third in expenditures, according to data that the US Census Bureau released this month. The most airport authorities in one state would defy most guesses: 57 in Nebraska, which spends $8.18 per state revenue for aviation activity but gets only $4.47 back in revenues. Florida has $2.16 billion in aviation authority revenues and $1.93 billion in spending, according to the 2022 census data. Florida spends $13.16 per 100 residents on aviation authority activity and gets back $9.72 in direct return, which does not take into account tourism spending or trade flow. The 435 airport authorities are all independent of local or state governments, which operate many of the nation’s major airports.
STATE WAGE LEADER: Average weekly wages in Miami-Dade County were highest among the state’s 27 largest counties, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed last week. Average wages in Miami-Dade of $1,400 and those in Palm Beach County of $1,399 were the only large-county wages in the state above the $1,390 large-county average for the nation in the quarter. Santa Clara, CA, had the nation’s largest weekly wage at $3,632 and Hidalgo, TX, had the lowest at $820, the bureau reported. Nationwide, wages increased 4.4% year over year. In the other 25 large counties of Florida, the highest weekly wage was $1,378 in Hillsborough County and the lowest was $984 in Osceola County.
LITIGATORS MOVING: Boutique litigation firm Kluger, Kaplan, Silverman, Katzen & Levine is relocating to a new office space but remaining in the Citigroup Center, 201 S Biscayne Blvd. The new space is 17,757 square feet. The move to the new site is expected in the second quarter of 2025.
