ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – A promising update to a real-life Grinch story in Rochester: A local mother of seven recently had all of her kids' gifts stolen, along with her car. This happened just days before she was set to undergo major kidney surgery.
Rochester family outraged after Christmas gifts for 7 kids stolen with car, ‘they took everything’
Karen Iglesia, better known in the community as the owner of Primetime 585, personally knows the mother and said there were complications with the surgery - which is typical during such a major endeavor.
Mom is still in the intensive care unit and is most likely expected to stay through Christmas. So, she said additional prayers and support are most welcome.
"All seven of her kids have a 90% attendance rate to school. They all play sports except for the baby; one is enrolled in college and living on a college campus. This is a good mother...she's trying her best." Iglesia said.
The good news here, the Rochester community responded whole heartedly to her crisis, helping to replace the gifts for all of her kids. We're told that not only did individuals help out, but a ton of Rochester businesses as well - really taking sincere care of this family.

"They're so giving, and what I like is - they went shopping for this family. They wrapped the gifts, they labeled them 'child 1, child 2,' and they took care in doing it. They wanted to do it. Businesses came out, Tracy Door, a fitness business, a variety of different businesses came in and said 'let's help," said Iglesia.
For Iglesia, there is still a lot of healing that needs to be done.
"They don't understand the trickle-down part is what I want the community - the mothers of these kids and the kids! When you steal a car, you are stealing the dignity, you could set a family back seven to eight months, financially," Iglesia said. "And people blaming people for owning a Kia is the most ridiculous thing."
She said as the world moves on from this tragedy, the family has a long road ahead of them before they too can move forward comfortably.

"You got to pick them [the children] up. They're playing basketball, they're cheerleading, they're doing this - the back and forth. How does she navigate that back and forth from appointments? The toys are great, and we're thankful for that. But let's help her just a little bit more," Iglesia explained.
