FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A family in Fresno has been displaced after an early morning fire Sunday, the Fresno Fire Department announced. Firefighters say around 7:20 a.m. they responded to a report of a fire at a house in the 6300 block of north Barcus Avenue. Investigators say the homeowners had noticed smells coming from the attached garage and found smoke coming from the cracks of the doorway. They evacuated and called 9-1-1. Crews reported the tile roof of the structure provided a challenge as it forced them to simultaneously attack the fire from both outside windows and inside the house through the door that leads to the garage. The garage was a complete loss and while no smoke or fire made it into the house, the family of five and two dogs were displaced. Fresno Fire says this is because the utility meter was pulled and wiring needs to be redone in the home, leaving them without power. The cause of the fire is under investigation and the family is being assisted by Red Cross.
