NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - People here in western Massachusetts took this last weekend before Christmas to do some last minute shopping. The National Retail Federation projected roughly 157 million people across the US would shop last-minute for the holidays. Inside "The Blue Marble" at Thornes Marketplace in Northampton, they saw many stopping in to purchase gifts for their loved ones and to avoid shipment delays from buying online. "Crowds have been brisk and it continues to be that way. Right now. We're fully stocked. We're fully staffed. Everybody's here and we're having fun," said The Blue Marble owner, Cathie Walz. She says the whole month of December their sales have been up. This year could bring record holiday sales with Americans expected to shell out more than $201 billion.
