EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A group of veteran volunteers with the East Providence Elks Club have adopted a senior living facility filled with veterans. Once a month, Matt Vieanna and members from the Elks throw a party for veterans at Orchard View Manor. “I see that they’re happy,” Sonya Nonginthirath of the manor said. “Not many of them have visitors.” From sharing war stories to sharing a meal, Vienna said he is on a mission to make sure every vet feels loved during a difficult time. “We’re all in this together, there’s no brother or sister left behind ever and that’s why we take this on and it’s one of our favorite days,” he said. Vienna, who spent two tours in Iraq, said the residents have become family to him. “It has become a whole hearted family,” he said. “We constantly check on them. Sometimes veterans don’t have a lot of family and we want to make sure they’re not alone.” Anyone interested in helping the veterans at the home can find more information here.
