HAMPTON (WAVY) - Allen Iverson was honored by Bethel High School last night as a member of the Bruins inaugural hall of fame class.
Before a two-year run at Georgetown and a Hall of Fame career in the NBA, Iverson was a Peninsula sensation where he led Bethel to state championships in football and basketball.
"This school made me who I am," Iverson said. "I still get chill bumps every time I come in here. The memories are still in my head so it's a beautiful thing, it's a blessing."
Sports Director Craig Loper also asked Iverson about his thoughts on Michael Vick being named the head coach of the Norfolk State football team.
Like Iverson, Vick was a star on the Peninsula where he played at Warwick High School before going on to Virginia Tech and the NFL.
"That's the little homie, man, I love Mike," Iverson said. We root for each other. He loves me and I love him."
Not only is Iverson excited about Vick, he'll have a front row seat at his press conference tomorrow.
"I'll be there Monday when they introduce him," Iverson said. "I can't wait. I think it's a blessing for him to have this type of opportunity. I think it's well deserved and I think he's gonna do great."
