BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana State Police is investigating after a Prairieville man was killed in a crash in Ascension Parish Saturday night.
Troopers responded to a fatal crash involving a single vehicle on LA 42 at LA 929 in Ascension Parish just before midnight on Dec. 21. Richard Creel, 57, of Prairieville, was killed as a result of the crash.
According to state police, Creel was driving a 2000 Ford F-250 west on LA 42 near Hornsby Road. LSP said the truck failed to navigate a left curve, went off the road to the right and hit a tree.
LSP said Creel was wearing his seatbelt but suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Although impairment is not suspected, a routine toxicology test was taken. The crash is still under investigation.
"Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death," LSP said.
