PHOTOS: Lawrence man arrested after carrying gun downtown, pursuit

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Lawrence, Kansas Police Department says that one man has been taken into custody after he was seen carrying a rifle in downtown Lawrence.
Police claim that when officers ordered the man to stop, he ran to a car, backed into a patrol car, jumped the curb, hit a lamp post and drove down the sidewalk to get away. The man fled down 6th Street, then onto K-10, then to I-70 where he crashed on an on-ramp.
Police are also saying that the man was headed toward a group standing at 9th and Massachusetts when officers spotted him with the gun. This incident occurred in the 800 block of Massachusetts around 2 a.m.
It is unknown why the man had the gun. He was arrested without injury and booked in the Douglas County Correctional Facility.
