INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Colts fell down early, but exploded for 38 straight points to beat the Tennessee Titans, 38-30 at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday afternoon to keep their faint playoff hopes alive.
The Colts lead by 31 points midway through the third quarter, but Tennessee staged a furious rally cutting the Indianapolis' lead to one score with 2:53 to play.
The Colts were able to get two first downs to drain most of the game clock and hang on for the victory.
The teams swapped punts to start the game before the Titans scored the first points of the game as Mason Rudolph connected on a deep shot to Calvin Ridley for a 38-yard touchdown.
The Colts appeared on the verge of answering, driving down to the Tennessee 27-yardline, but Amani Hooker intercepted Anthony Richardson to end the threat.
The Titans were poised to turn the takeaway into points, but Brayden Narveson missed a 53-yard field goal.
The miss sparked the Colts, who marched right down the field on two Jonathan Taylor eight-yards runs and a Richardson 29-yard run. The second year-quarterback capped the drive with a five-yard TD to tie the game 7-7. That was just the beginning of the offensive fireworks.
The Colts' defense forced a three-and-out, then the offense went right back to work as Taylor broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run to give Indianapolis the lead, 14-7.
The next time the Colts touched the ball, rookie Adonai Mitchell made his biggest play as a pro, hauling in a 36-yard pass from Richardson to set up a Matt Gay 31-yard field goal to put the Colts on top, 17-7.
Indianapolis wasn't done scoring in the first half, after a Kenny Moore II interception, Richardson connected with Josh Downs for a 27-yard touchdown to send the Colts to the locker room up 24-7.
The Colts received the second half kickoff and needed only one play to score as Taylor had his second long touchdown of the game. A 70-yard scoring run put the Colts ahead, 31-7.
Rudolph threw his second interception of the game on the Titans' first possession of the second half. Samuel Womack picked off a pass intended for Tony Pollard and returned it to the Tennessee 40. The Colts scored four plays later on a Taylor one-yard run to make it 38-7.
The Titans scored three straight touchdowns to make the game interesting on a Tyjae Spears 11-yard run, a Rudolph to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine six-yard strike and and a Spears two-yard rush.
The Colts stay alive in the AFC wildcard chase. They'll play another must-win game next week at the New York Giants at 1:00 p.m. on CBS4's broadcast partner, FOX59.
