HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The Eddie is on and some may be wondering how the scoring is completed to decide the winner of the most prestigious big wave surf contest in the world.

Surfer and host of this yearʻs The Eddie Big Wave Invitational broadcast, Kaipo Guerrero broke down the scoring for this yearʻs contest.
The contest is broken into two rounds, each with five heats with nine surfers in each heat.
The top three scores of the surfers on the leaderboard are compiled for the surfers to decide the winner.
Luke Shepardson, who had an epic ride in heat one of round one, is the reigning champ having won the last run of The Eddie.
