Sundance Film Festival Celebrates the Craft of Storytelling
Dec 22, 2024
The 41st Sundance Film Festival runs Jan. 23-Feb. 2, 2025, in Park City and Salt Lake City.“We will begin premiering films at noon local time on Thursday, January 23 through Tuesday, January 28 in Park City, along with screenings in Salt Lake City starting Friday, January 24,” explains Festival Director Eugene Hernandez, who is also director of public programming. “Whether you join us for the opening weekend, at the midpoint when all of the films are available along with additional exclusive screenings and special events, or the closing weekend, we’re excited to see you in person in Utah.”Since 1985, The Sundance Film Festival has screened an array of films that have gone on to gain critical acclaim and reach new worldwide audiences. The festival has also hosted and facilitated panel discussions with industry insiders, actresses, actors, filmmakers, and composers, whose insights are not only inspirational, but relevant to the ever-evolving media known as film. The festival, which honors innovative storytelling, performances, and conversations, has introduced such groundbreaking feature, documentary, and short films and episodic works, including Sean Wang’s “Didi (弟弟);” Natalie Rae’s and Angela Patton’s “Daughters”; Sian Heder’s “CODA”; Ryan Coogler’s “Fruitvale Station”; Jared Hess’ “Napoleon Dynamite”; and Stephen Soderbergh’s “sex, lies, and videotape”.Sundance is also a program of the nonprofit Sundance Institute, and continually seeks and fosters new voices, fresh perspectives, and underrepresented talent in storytelling.Founded in 1981 by Robert Redford, the Sundance Institute fulfills that mission through labs, grants, and mentorship that takes place throughout the year in the U.S. and around the world.Films that were created through these programs include Benh Zeitlin’s “Beasts of the Southern Wild”, Betsy West and Julie Cohen’s “RBG”, and Daniel Scheinert’s and Daniel Kwan’s “Swiss Army Man” to name a few.The institute also nurtured the early careers of artists and filmmakers, including Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, Lisa Cholodenko, Ryan Coogler, Nia DaCosta, Kimberly Peirce, Quentin Tarantino, Taika Waititi, and Chloé Zhao.2025 Sundance Film Festival in-person and online ticket packages and passes are currently on sale at festival.sundance.org/tickets.
