ALEXANDRIA, Ind. — A man is dead and two firefighters sustained minor injuries in a fire that took place at an Alexandria residence Sunday morning.
According to the Alexandria Fire Department, police arrived at the scene and reported smoke and flames coming from a home. A 911 caller had told dispatch that while four of the occupants had escaped, a man was still trapped in a back bedroom.
AFD said they entered the residence, but by the time they located the man, he was already deceased.
The four occupants who had exited the home were transported to an area hospital for evaluation, due to smoke inhalation, per AFD.
AFD added that two East Madison Fire Territory firefighters sustained minor injuries. However, they were both evaluated on the scene and did not require transportation to hospitals.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
