They say if you choose a job you love you'll never have to work a day in your life. 95-year-old Tony Granaudo of East Longmeadow is proving just that.
Friday he retired after a nearly fifty year career with Longmeadow Public Schools. He was a mail deliverer to the school for 27 years, and before that he was the head custodian at Center Elementary School for 22 years.
Granaudo grew up in Italy, moved to Argentina where he opened a butcher shop and eventually migrated to East Longmeadow in 1972. After about two years he started working with Longmeadow Public Schools.
"It was fun, all my life, all the time... I never came home mad" says Granaudo.
Nearly five decades later his students and peers say he's still so positive. As for his secret..."exercise, keep moving, don't sit down".
Hundreds of students and staff from all over town celebrated him Friday morning.
"Today I went to work and hundreds of kids were waiting for me, it was so beautiful," expressed Granaudo.
He enjoys gardening, cooking, and spending quality time with others. Tony also encourages people to stay active, and positive. A key to maintaining your peace.
