Cold overnight, warm up ahead with rain possible on Christmas Day
Dec 21, 2024
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Get ready for a chilly night across the area, especially in northern regions.
Temperatures in parts of southwest Mississippi and areas near the Pearl and Pascagoula rivers could drop into the mid-to-upper 20s overnight. Other locations north of Interstate 12 may see lows in the lower 30s, while spots closer to the Southshore should stay slightly warmer, around 40 degrees. Clear skies and calm winds will allow for quick cooling after sunset.
Sunday looks to be sunny but cool, with highs in the mid-50s. Temperatures will gradually warm up early next week, with highs climbing into the 60s by Monday and Tuesday. Overnight lows will also improve, staying in the 40s to 50s.
Rain chances return late Tuesday into Christmas Day. While the day may start with scattered showers and even a few isolated thunderstorms, most of the rain is expected to remain light. Keep an umbrella handy if you’re heading out to celebrate.
Looking ahead, the weather later in the week turns more uncertain. Multiple rounds of rain are possible, with the potential for heavier rain and even severe storms late in the week. Stay tuned to updates if you’re traveling during the holiday period.
