BOULDER, Colo. A suspect is in custody after he allegedly stabbed a man multiple times in Boulder on Friday evening. The Boulder Police Department (BPD) said on social media it is "in the very early stages" of this investigation.Around 8:15 p.m. Friday, officers with BPD responded to a field west of the main library in the area of 9th Street and Arapahoe Avenue, and found a 36-year-old man who had been stabbed multiple times. The man was transported to a hospital with injuries that were life-threatening, police said, but he was improving as of Saturday morning. They located him near the scene and was arrested around 8:40 p.m.The suspect, identified as Darrell Nelson Persson, 32, was brought to jail on a charge of first-degree assault. Police said both people involved are unhoused individuals. They do not believe the two men knew each other. "The initial investigation indicates that the stabbing happened after an argument over drug use and fire inside a tent," the department said. The police department obtained search warrants for several tents and other property as it continues its investigation. The department said it does not believe there is a threat to public safety.
