EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- Happy Saturday and first day of winter, El Paso. The day was shorter, and our night will be longer due to the winter solstice. The astronomical event signifies the start of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and means we will slowly begin transitioning to longer days through spring.
Here in El Paso, we saw a high in the upper 60s and will drop to a very chilly low in the mid-30s overnight. The high for your Sunday is expected to be near 70 with a low around 37. We’ll start the holiday week with light winds and mostly sunny skies with a high in the upper 60s. Monday’s low will be in the mid-60s before warming up to around 67 for Tuesday. Your Christmas Eve will feature clear skies and calm breezes making ideal conditions for any Christmas light viewings or Santa-watching.
On Christmas Day, we’ll see a high near 68 along with windy conditions. Wind speeds are tracking to range between 5-10 mph in the earlier hours and pick up to 20-25 mph in the afternoon. Winds can gust as high as 35 mph.
On Thursday, we’ll be left will cooler temperatures in the lower 60s with lows in the low 40s through Saturday.
