Storm Center AM Update: Warming up into next week
Dec 21, 2024
SIOUX FALLS, SD -- Welcome to winter! While today will feel like the new season in eastern and central KELOLAND, the same cannot be said out west.
We're going to be looking at a mainly quiet day across KELOLAND, but western South Dakota will be getting in on an unseasonably warm day with temperatures climbing well into the 50s and even near 60 at times.
Milder temperatures will remain in place to the west and gradually spill eastward as we head into the day on Sunday as well. While much of the day is quiet, we do need to watch northeastern KELOLAND as we head into the evening and overnight.
A clipper system will move into North Dakota during this time, but some of that moisture may clip the northeastern corner of South Dakota with a wintry mix. Please be mindful of slick roads during this time.
After this, we quiet down as we head through the upcoming holiday week. Little if any moisture comes along through Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so those of you that may be dreaming of a white Christmas will likely have to keep dreaming and hope that the snow we did receive can last until then.
Beyond the 7 day forecast, odds for above average temperatures remain favored...as 2024 will likely end on a milder note.
