COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- While Santa and his elves have been busy making presents for Christmas, Columbus has its own helpers working to get those gifts under the tree.
The Woodworkers of Central Ohio has spent the last 50 years hand-crafting toys for all ages that are given out by charitable organizations. "Wood is a easy commodity we can come by," said woodworker Bob Chapman. "Some of it is donated to us, some we buy, and that way we can make the toys the way we want to."
Over 4,000 toys are sorted through to go to 18 agencies around central Ohio to keep up the magic of this Christmas tradition. Roy Clark, the executive director of NNEMAP Food Pantry said around 1,200 to 1,400 children receiver these gifts.
""I mean, when I first he's first started doing this, I, we weren't sure what we were getting. And we looked at and we're all amazed because it's handcrafted and so many things today, obviously or not," said Clark. "And the fact that these gentlemen put so much time, maybe ladies as well put in so much time over the course of months and months to do this for families is is remarkable and it's a blessing for us."
