FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A person has been arrested after allegedly carjacking a vehicle with a three-year-old inside, the Fresno Police Department said.
Officers said a man was in the area of Mariposa and Fulton streets in Fresno just after 5:30 p.m. on Friday when he stepped away from his silver 2016 Honda CRV with a three-year-old inside and a suspect jumped into the running vehicle and took off.
Police say the father tried to get into the vehicle as it drove away and got injured.
Upon receiving the call, the police department said they pulled every resource available. Officers found the vehicle exiting Highway 99 through the Shaw Avenue exit. They attempted to issue a traffic stop, but the vehicle did not stop, and a pursuit ensued.
The California Highway Patrol assisted with the investigation. The Fresno Police Department say the vehicle eventually became disabled and the suspect was detained and arrested under suspicion of carjacking, kidnapping and child endangerment.
Detectives say the boy was returned to his parents and is safe.
